Can you swim in Bagsværd Lake?
Swimming in Bagsværd Lake is not advised, and this is often stated on signs around the lake. We have both fallen in the water from our kayak and from the paddleboard, and we can confirm that it is not particularly pleasant water to end up in. It itched a little, but luckily no harm was done. If you happen to be in lovely north Zealand and want to swim, we recommend heading out to one of the many fantastic beaches. If you like standing alone on a jetty and fishing, though, Bagsværd Lake and Lyngby Lake are perfect for just that.

Bagsværd Lake map
We are often asked for directions around Bagsværd Lake. The north side runs along Nybrovej, where you pass rowing clubs and boat hire.
Why you should walk around Bagsværd Lake
We walk and test the best walking routes both in and outside the Danish kingdom. It was not long ago that we walked around Amarminoen, which we had plenty of good things to say about. We love most of the routes we walk, but they are all far from perfect, which is why you can share your own opinion at the bottom of our articles.
Since we live right next to Bagsværd Lake, we know the cosy spots if you want to visit a café or an inn. If you walk along Nybrovej, you will find Nybro Kro, where we occasionally end up ordering a lovely open shrimp sandwich and a couple of Svaneke beers. You can also get coffee and hire canoes, kayaks and much more around the lake.
You can also choose to take the boat service. We have never taken it ourselves because of the price, and because we prefer to get out on the water in other ways, but it has really good reviews. You get to see all of Bagsværd Lake and Lyngby Lake as well as Aldershvile Castle Park and Sophienholm Park. There are three places to hop on the boat around Bagsværd Lake.
Bagsværd Lake lies in three municipalities
Bagsværd Lake lies in no fewer than three municipalities. Gladsaxe, Lyngby-Taarbæk and Furesø municipalities all share the lovely lake. That may be one more reason why everything is so well kept when you go exploring all the options out by the Mølleå system.
Bagsværd Lake perimeter
We have measured the perimeter of the lake at 6.8 kilometres. As mentioned, the trip often becomes much longer depending on which route you choose. We were lucky that Bagsværd Lake froze over in the winter of 2021. Here we could skate straight across the lake and walk out to the island in the middle. The whole lake was full of people, and it gave exactly the same vibes you get on a ski holiday. We may be a little biased when it comes to reviewing Bagsværd Lake, but we give it five out of five stars ourselves. Do drop a comment with what you think, and whether we have missed mentioning places like Bagsværd Rowing Club or the legendary harbour hut near Lyngby Lake.
We hope, as always, that you have a wonderful walk.
